Music has been a lifelong passion of mine, particularly jungle and drum & bass. While most kids cuddled teddy bears, I fell asleep with a speaker beside me, soaking up beats and basslines.

After facing an extremely challenging period in my life, I made the decision to return to what I loved most: music.

Music has always been more than entertainment to me. It has been a refuge, a release and a way of connecting with people.

FLAME JADE

Flame Jade is a London-based drum & bass and jungle DJ and producer with a deep love for the full spectrum of the music.

Rather than defining herself by one subgenre, Flame moves across the entire spectrum of jungle and drum & bass — from soulful liquid and atmospheric DnB through Amen-driven jungle, old-school and contemporary jungle, 2000s drum & bass, rollers, heavier selections and jump up.

Her sets are shaped around the event, promoter and crowd while always retaining her own identity: strong selection, musical storytelling, energy and connection.

Raised around reggae and Trojan Records in a music-loving household, Flame developed an early connection to rhythm, bass and sound-system culture. Her own journey into underground music was later shaped by pirate radio, graffiti culture, squat parties and rave culture.

And yes — Flame is her real name.

Flame is a resident DJ at Jungle Delight and on Thames Delta Radio, where her shows give her the freedom to explore different eras and styles across jungle and drum & bass, with a particular love for Amen-driven selections and the history behind the music.

Her knowledge and appreciation of different eras can also be heard through specialist projects including a dedicated 2000s drum & bass show with MC Det and her History of Jungle mix, which begins with Lenny De Ice’s seminal “We Are I.E.” and traces the development of jungle, featuring MC Navigator and M-TEK.

On the club circuit, Flame is a repeat booking at Jungle Delight and has opened for jungle and drum & bass pioneer DJ Rap. She has appeared for respected names including Renegade Hardware and Telepathy and performed at recognised UK venues including Ministry of Sound, E1, EGG London and Fire.

One of her biggest milestones came after winning the High Lights DJ competition, earning a performance on the Hybrid Minds stage at High Lights Festival. During the set, Flame played three of her own productions — bringing together the two sides of her developing artist identity as both DJ and producer.

Her selections have also received recognition beyond the dancefloor. Her Carnival Mix was selected by Mixcloud for its official “Featured In Our Blog” playlist and reached #4 on Mixcloud’s Ragga Jungle chart.

Equally comfortable playing vinyl and CDJs, Flame has a deep respect for the foundations of jungle and drum & bass while remaining connected to where the music is heading today.

Her versatility isn’t about playing everything simply for the sake of it. It comes from genuinely loving the many different forms the music can take.

A liquid set needs something different from a jungle rave. A 2000s DnB set tells a different story from rollers or heavier club selections. Flame approaches each booking with that in mind, digging into different parts of her collection while keeping her own musical personality running through every set.

Alongside DJing, Flame continues to develop as a producer, drawing inspiration from jungle, reggae, ragga, sound-system culture, soulful drum & bass and the wider history of UK bass music while developing a sound of her own.

At the centre of everything is connection.

Connection between DJ and crowd. Between reggae and jungle. Between old records and new productions. Between the foundations of the culture and the artists carrying it forward.

For Flame Jade, every set is a conversation between past and future, sound system and soul.
